We often hear people saying that there's no need for feminism anymore. Women can vote, we get equal pay, and we can take our clothes off so we're all liberated and we should just be pleased about it. When you walk down the street you see all different body shapes and sizes but when you look in a magazine, on television or on the internet there is only one type of body that is celebrated. This has a very frightening effect on you and your peers, and that is exactly what is intended!
The media is extremely dishonest with you when they show images of women and teenagers. Have you ever noticed how television shows that are set in schools rarely feature teenaged actors? Why is that? Some thoughtful critics claim that images of real teenagers are not marketable.

Feminist is the name given to people (men can be feminists too) who strive to create better conditions for women around the world. The first feminists were called Suffragettes. They fought for women to have the right to vote in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
